Employee benefits
At Teddies we believe in supporting our staff and value the contribution that each individual can make. We realise how important it is to have a positive working environment and so continue to reward all employees with excellent benefits.
We put time and effort into aiding your development with a wide ranging training programme available to you and in return would expect you to be committed to the children in your care, showing enthusiasm and dedication to your role.
We employ both qualified and unqualified staff in our nurseries encouraging every member of the team to fulfil their potential and enjoy a long and happy career with Teddies Nurseries.
Working at Teddies you can expect
Paid holidays starting at 23 days per annum |
All nursery staff are entitled to 23 days annual leave per annum, excluding public and bank holiday. This entitlement increases with length of service up to a maximum of 27 days per annum. |
Free uniform |
All members of staff are provided with a free Teddies uniform. This includes sweatshirts, polo shirts and tracksuit bottoms. |
Learning and development |
To ensure that every member of staff has the appropriate skills and knowledge required to perform in their role to the best of their ability, we offer extensive training opportunities, be that class room based, in-house sessions or courses delivered by external providers. We constantly review our training calendar to ensure our training is up to date and this year we achieved our Investors in People accreditation that demonstrates our on going commitment to learning and development. |
Opportunities to gain further qualifications |
In addition to providing training in house, Teddies fully supports any further education you might require to progress your career. We have a Further Education Policy in place and at any stage you are able to discuss your educational needs with your manager and agree which qualifications would be recommended and supported by Teddies. |
Opportunity for career pregression |
Giving all staff the opportunity to realise their personal aspirations is very important to us. We recognise that moving up a career ladder is often a big step forwards and we aim to provide effective training, support and guidance for everyone to improve their skills and make their goals attainable. All our vacancies are advertised internally and where possible we promote from within and this year the majority of our management vacancies, from Head of Unit to Nursery Manager, have been filled internally. |
Stakeholder pension scheme |
All members of staff are entitled to an excellent Stakeholder pension scheme that is administered through Clerical Medical. If you would like further information, please contact the HR team at Head Office. |
Bupa Wellbeing |
We recognise that a nursery environment can be hectic and at times stressful and that is why we have the Bupa Wellbeing service that is available to all Teddies staff and their immediate family. It provides free and confidential access to trained counsellors and specialist advisors, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. The service is provided by independent, highly professional and ethical practitioners, bound by strict codes of conduct and confidentiality. |
Staff discounts on 75 different products |
As part of the Bupa Group, all Teddies staff have access to over 75 staff discounts that Bupa have arranged with a variety of different companies. These reductions are in areas such as discounts off gym membership, holiday discounts, travel insurance, Private Medical Insurance, car rental, Sony electrical equipment and many more. |
Teddies Childcare discount scheme |
Subject to availability, staff are entitled to receive a discounted childcare space in one of our nurseries. Staff are now entitled to a minimum 25% discount off their childcare fees from the time they start up to a maximum of 50%, depending on length of service and position within the company. |
Care 4 scheme |
In addition to the Teddies Childcare Discount Scheme, we have launched the Care 4 Scheme. This unique employee benefit scheme enables parents working in Teddies to save on their childcare costs. The scheme works by Teddies substituting staff members' childcare costs directly from their salaries and in return providing them with a childcare benefit provided by Care 4. The benefit is exempt of National Insurance contributions and therefore the NIC's amount that you would normally incur on this sum of money is eliminated giving an attractive saving. |
One Life Ideas and Awards |
Following the success of the SHINE Awards, we launched the One Life Ideas and Awards Scheme into Teddies at the end of 2003. The One Life Ideas Scheme gives all Teddies staff the opportunity to make suggestions that will improve the service we provided to our customers, our operational efficiency or our working environment. If your idea is approved for implementation you will receive a reward of between £25.00 and £5,000.00.
The Awards scheme is designed to recognise employees who exceed normal job role expectations in demonstrating service excellence, enhancing Teddies and Bupa's reputation and role modelling of a positive attitude to achieving objectives. |
Bupa Healthline |
The Bupa Healthline was made available to all Teddies staff earlier this year and provides staff with confidential free health information 24 hours per day, 365 days a year. The service is available to staff and their immediate family. The line is manned by qualified, specially trained nurses who will be able to answer your questions on many health issues. The information you receive won't cost you a penny and even the phone call is charged at local rates. |
Recruitment bonus of £600 |
As a rapidly expanding business, we are always looking for new staff members. If you have a friend or family member looking for a career in childcare and you introduce them to Teddies, we will pay you £600 for each person you recruit that we then employ. This is subject to certain terms and conditions. |
Staff learning and development are seen as vital elements to our success as a company. We realise that it is through the efforts and skill of our staff that we are able to deliver exceptional childcare and with this in mind we will continue to provide opportunities for you to develop your skills and experience throughout your career with us.
Working in a nursery environment provides constant interaction with other childcare professionals, giving you lots of opportunity to learn from one another and put your skills into practice. In addition to on the job learning we provide an extensive range of learning and development programmes designed to build on your existing skills and helping you develop new ones to maximise your full potential.
Staff training begins from day one when all new staff undergo a thorough induction programme. We appreciate that starting a new job, especially with a large company can be rather daunting and so to help new members of staff learn the ropes, each new employee is assigned a 'buddy' who they can go to with any questions they might have.
There are over 20 training courses run every month, which members of staff can benefit from as each is required and as their experience grows. The purpose of these courses is to develop all the skills, which could come in useful for the day to day role requirements such as leadership and team building.
We also support Nursery Nurses to gain professional qualifications, if they join Teddies Nurseries as an unqualified member of staff. While it would be the individuals' responsibility to make sure their needs were met we would provide them with all the support they needed to be successful in their studies.
